Topic outline

  • Students are to design and animate (using Adobe Flash) a pilot episode/trailer for either: 
    • the computer game they created in the previous units 
    • or a retro style childrens TV program along the lines of Peppa Pig, The Flumps, Bagpuss, or The Clangers. 
    so that they learn how to animate in Flash and understand the system life cycle process an animator will go through in order to create a final product.
  • Topic 1

    Students will be taught how to draw, edit and convert basic shapes into symbols (graphics) in order to create a simple cartoon character. They will produce a mood board for their cartoon.
  • Topic 2

    Students will learn about the timeline, key frames and how their graphic symbols can be animated using shape tweens. They will produce a storyboard for homework that plans their simple cartoon.
  • Topic 3

    Students will learn how to export their characters as movies in order that they can be reimported into layers alongside images to produce a larger movie. They will also see how to produce a motion tween. Homework will be to work on their cartoon and make progress.
  • Topic 4

    Students are introduced to sound and animated text so that they can complete the narration for their cartoon. Homework will be to work on their cartoon and make progress.
  • Topic 5

    Students will be shown how to export their finished movie and how to publish it (e.g. Frog Page in E-Portfolio / Link submitted via Set Work) Homework will be to review their movie.
  • Topic 6

    Movie improvements and Showcase. Extension: Add a button to a title screen which when pressed starts the movie.
