Topic outline
Overview
This unit is based around the idea that you are working for a theme park developer who is looking for a new UK location. There is a preliminary preparation task for the purposes of data collection followed by six scenario based tasks you must complete for the coursework. Finally there is a seventh task that is unrelated to the scenario but that counts towards the end unit mark.Task 0 - Data Collection
Collecting Data on global theme park rides
In this task you will collect data on theme park rides around the world and populate a database that we can all use in task 3.
Task 1 - Online Searching
Using Search Engines to find out about UK theme parks
In this task you will use a variety of search engines to find out about current UK theme parks.
Task 2 - Searching Large Databases
Using large online databases to find local information

Raw Excel data file that can be imported into a new table in Access easily with the external data tool.
Task 4 - Spreadsheet
Analysing data in a Spreadsheet
In this task you will use all the data you have collected and analyse it within a spreadsheet. You will draw conclusions from the information you place in the spreadsheet.
Task 5 - Report
In this task you will bring all your research together to produce a report with recommendations for the park location.
Task 6 - Evaluate
Before the client can commit to your recommendation they want to be sure that your research is robust and accurate. In this task you will review and evaluate the process you went through identifying strengths and weaknesses. You might highlight areas where the process could be improved or further investigations might be required.
Task 7 - Research
This is a standalone task that is not connected to the scenario from the previous tasks. However that does not mean you could not use experience gained from the previous tasks to influence your methodology now.
You are to investigate the availability of electronic information across a range of users and situations.
